Todor Yankov

Angel Ashikov graduated from the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy with a Master degree of Civil Engineering (Structures) in 2012. From 2012 to 2014 and from 2015 to 2016 he worked for a major Bulgarian consulting engineering firm. In his portfolio fall a variety of projects – from single family houses to large-scale projects such as exhibition and convention centres, shopping malls, industrial buildings, etc., located in Bulgaria, Russia, Germany, Austria, etc.

In 2014 Angel joined the University of Auckland, New Zealand as a PhD research fellow in Civil Engineering (Structures), with responsibility for developing seismic resisting systems that will deliver a high damage threshold in severe earthquakes. At the University of Auckland, he conducted a study on modified eccentrically braced frames (EBFs) with a new type of bolted replaceable dissipative link. The principle outcome of his PhD was the innovative design and detailing of bolted replaceable active links for EBFs which can be used in a number of high profile buildings situated in areas with high seismic hazard.

In 2016 Angel joined FERA Consultants specialising in structural steel and composite engineering. He is currently engaged on a large project overseas on the development of composite structural assemblies as well as being involved in ongoing development of the bearing structure of the project mentioned above.
